Welcome

The Ohio Music Teachers Association Southwest District is an organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the study, enjoyment and development of music in the nine-county southwest Ohio area. Counties in the district include Adams, Butler, Brown, Clermont, Clinton, Fayette, Hamilton, Highland and Warren.

OMTA•SW membership includes more than 140 music teachers offering instruction in piano, organ, guitar, keyboards, voice, choral music, flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin and harp. Many offer specialized education in theory, accompanying, pedagogy, music history and elementary school music.

Members also include faculty from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Xavier University in Cincinnati, and Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky.

Ohio Music Teachers Association

OMTA was founded in 1897 in Delaware, Ohio. It is now affiliated with Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), which was founded in 1876. MTNA is America’s oldest professional music teachers’ organization. OMTA membership includes independent music teachers, college faculty members and concert artists.

Our goals are to offer a wide variety of opportunities for students’ musical development, such as recitals, master classes, festivals and competitions, and to nurture teachers’ continuing professional growth through local programs and workshops, and state and national conventions.

Throughout the United States, our membership includes teachers of every instrument and voice. The aim of OMTA is to inspire and maintain our teaching standards to the highest professional level. Associate membership is also available to music students.
